Talented author and children's literacy advocate, Sandy Fussell, has launched an exciting new website - Read Write Zone - aimed at fostering an interest in reading and writing though blog-based interaction between students and authors. Teachers incorporate these blog conversations in their relevant literacy studies.
This fabulous project is in its first term and Sandy is currently blogging with three schools - Smithfield Public School (NSW), Arncliffe Public School (NSW) and Manor Lakes Specialist College (VIC). She will be doing so for a period of 8 weeks.
"Ultimately I hope to involve more authors and an ongoing stream of schools," says Sandy. "It is very early days yet but the project is proving popular with students. Already students have logged in from home to check what's happening and they are beginning to engage in discussion across school blog posts, commenting on the discussions I am having with other schools."
Sandy hopes this initiative leads to direct cross-school conversation between students. Already, students are beginning to share their work, recommend books and contribute book reviews.
Teachers interested in participating next term can contact Sandy directly.
Sandy is the author of the amazing Samurai Kids series (among other books) and will be one of our Behind the Books authors on 1 & 2 November - don't miss it.
