Event: Children’s Choice Book Awards in the ACT

Nominations are now open for the Children’s Choice Book Awards in the ACT. The hunt is now on for students to nominate their favourite books for the 2011 Children’s Choice Book Awards Shortlist.

The books kids nominate as their favourites will be put together with nominations from other schools and libraries across Australia. The ten most popular books in each category will appear on the short list for that year.
The four categories are:
1. Picture Books
2. Fiction for younger readers
3. Fiction for older readers
4. Fiction for grades 7 – 9

Nominations can be made online now via http://www.library.act.gov.au/ anytime until Thursday 17 March 2011. The shortlist will be announced in term 2 and a poster will be distributed to schools and public libraries in term 2 2011.

About the COOL Awards
The COOL Awards are the annual children’s choice book awards made by young readers in the ACT from amongst the Australian books they have enjoyed reading during the year.

These awards are a chance to let everyone know what books young people like to read, and to promote the enjoyment of reading Australian books. We encourage you to discuss and debate your ideas on what makes a good book, and to use your local public library.

Being involved in the COOL Awards is easy. You can nominate and vote for your favourite books on this website, and you can do this at the same time as you are participating in other reading programs such as the Chief Minister's Reading Challenge and the MS Read-a-thon.

The ACT Public Library have been convening the COOL Awards since 1991 and we are always eager to see what books you enjoy the most each year.

The winners are announced on the ACT Public Library Blog and this website in November.
