Review: Cupcake

One day, some eggs, flour and sugar were mixed together - and Cupcake was born. He was born into a batch of siblings with fancy fillings and lustrous toppings . . . including Pink Princess, Chocolaty Chocolate and Rainbow-Sprinkles - and he felt very very special.

But little Cupcake had a problem. He was quite plain, and when nobody picked him to nibble on, he suddenly felt far less special.

Enter plain but sympathetic Green Candle. He, too, came from a collection of fancypants candles. Maybe together, they could become something special.

This duo's attempt to become out-of-the-ordinary is as charming as the gorgeous illustrations in this beautiful book. A story about friendship, self-acceptance and working together, Cupcake is penned with a humour and warmth that sets it apart from so many books on the market.

Visually evocative and just plain fun, this is also a beautifully-produced book, and will charm adult readers as much as the young readers who dive in and lick its sweet icing pages.
