Review: Little Things for Busy Hands

Oh my goodness, thank goodness. A craft book for kids that achieves many wonderful things.

Firstly - it's small. In format, I mean. A totally kid-friendly size, but not too small that the pages are squished and we can't enjoy the lovely photos.

Secondly - it provides projects that don't require a sewing machine. Not that we're discouraging sewing machines, but with the long school holidays ahead of us, it's nice to know the kids can immerse themselves in projects that don't require "the needle's jammed-AGAIN!" adult intervention.

The other thing Little Things for Busy Hands does is provide really super cute projects that are actually attractive - not daggy homespun - and that, ergo, young chicks will want to actually create.

There are 16 projects in the book - kind of on the lower side of options - but the pages are certainly quickly filled by detailed, step-by-step projects - and being that all projects are covetable (unlike many craft books) and totally doable - the 16 items do feel like good value for money.

Projects range from the super simple - fabric button rings, lace brooches, bunting - to the more detailed - owl canvas, pony friends, frog purse - and include gorgeous photos and easy-to-follow, illustrated directions.

The tone of the book's text is appropriate, clear and kid-friendly, and there are helpful notes on stitches, cutting, patterns, equipment, using glue, and other crafting and sewing tips.

A must-have for school hols and for anyone who loves to create.
