Review: Oh No, George!

Harris is about to leave the house. With a slightly concerned bulge in his eye, he asks George, point blank:

"Will you be good, George?"

"Yes," says George. "I will be very good."

Moments after Harris leaves, George trots through the house with a wide-eyed look across his adorable doggy face. He is thinking to himself "I hope I'll be good."

Indeed.

Don't we all hope to be good? But what happens when we are faced with too much temptation to possibly bear?

Enter the cake sitting on the kitchen bench. The cat. The planter of soil toting pretty blooms. Are these items simply too much for a dog to resist? Despite all intentions, can he coast on by and leave said items untouched, unfettered?

Well, what do you think? There's a reason this book is called Oh No, George!

Chris Haughton's classic humour and divine colour-blocked illustrations make for a fun and very funny book that will have kids in riotous laughter, and parents using their very best suspense-laden voices, as pages are turned to see if George can indeed be good.

A book about having a good heart - even if perfectly good behaviour is unattainable.
