Review: Bananas in My Ears: A Collection of Poems

What do you get when you mix grunge images with everyday humour? A rib-tickling series of poems that have to be read again and again.

Michael Rosen is the master of one-liners. He crams layers of images, emotion and quirkiness into a few precious words.

Quentin Blake's understated sketches with simple details add a twist to Rosen's verse, so you end up with hours of fun.

Some pages contain more white space than words, but these are actually my favorites. They leave room for the imagination to take off: What if hard boiled eggs turned into hard boiled legs… and started to run around the table? With a funny sketch here and a silly drawing there, the rest is up to you.

Divided into four roughly separated chapters (Breakfast, Seaside, Doctor and Bedtime), there's a place for giggles any time of the day. Things you say in each of these chapters are my all time favorites. People really do say these whacky things. Can you add your own funny phrases?

Bananas in My Ears is just plain silly at times. That's why I love it so much.
