Review: Pretty Pru

Who’s a pretty bird?

Pretty Pru is a high-maintenance yellow bird that enjoys putting make up on … especially her favourite red lipstick!

As Pru is fancying herself in the mirror her friend Tumpty approaches and hoping to be pretty like Pru, asks if he (or she?!) can use the lipstick too. Pru’s abrupt response is ‘No, you’ll waste it!”

This is where the trouble begins … Pru’s handbag containing all of her pieces of treasured make-up, goes missing …

Pru goes about asking each of her make-up adorned friends if they have seen her handbag, and so the mystery unfolds.

“It wasn’t me!” say all her friends - but they’re all looking rather pretty …

Author-Illustrator, Polly Dunbar has created a delightful children’s tale with many underlying messages that can be addressed with young children, especially concepts of sharing, honesty and friendship. I found particularly amusing that Dunbar’s ‘Tilly and Friends’ books were drawn upon her own experiences from sharing a house with friends.

I found this book to be charming and witty, and am looking forward to reading about the mischief that the other friends (housemates) get up to.
