Review: One Very Tired Wombat

The sun is rising and a tired wombat is looking forward to dozing the day away. Unfortunately, a range of Australian native birds have other ideas. Poor wombat. Will he ever get to sleep?

As the tired wombat tries to get some rest, he is gradually surrounded by familiar Australian birds such as kookaburras, magpies and galahs.  There are a few birds that children might be less familiar with as well including tawny frogmouths and curlews.

Counting from 1 to 10 (and back again), One Tired Wombat is a lovely book for young readers. The black and white illustrations are simple with a humorous appeal as the poor wombat struggles to ignore the cheeky, chattering birds. Tired parents will appreciate the long-suffering expression on the wombat’s face as he deals with the constant interruptions while he tries to rest.

Sweet and simple, One Tired Wombat is a lovely introduction to some of our iconic Australian wildlife as well as a fun way to practice counting from 1 to 10.
