12 Curly Questions with author Jeannette Rowe

1. Tell us something hardly anyone knows about you.
Everyday I feed our family of Magpies on my front door step. There are four of them. Bill, Shirley, Hooky, and Scrawny.

2. What is your nickname?
My family nickname is ‘Nettie’ short for Jeannette.

3. What is your greatest fear?
Being locked in small spaces! Definitely.

4. Describe your writing style in ten words.
Playful, child like, humorous, verging on silly and very fun.


5. Tell us five positive words that describe you as a writer.
Playful, childlike, humorous, silly and of course FUN!

6. What book character would you be, and why?
Tigger! I love high energy and playfulness.

7. If you could time travel, what year would you go to and why?
The 1920’s. I love the style of the 20s and 30s.

8. What would your ten-year-old self say to you now?
Remember me, know who you are and all you can be. Be happy now!

9. Who is your greatest influence?
I have many people who have influenced me and my work. Donna Rawlins, Margaret Hamilton, Grahame Grassby, my daughter Lucy. There are too many to name just one.

10. What/who made you start writing?
Donna Rawlins encouraged me to write, as did Paul Jennings. I never saw myself as a writer, only always as an artist and illustrator. It was a bit of a leap for me, but I love telling stories whether it be through pictures or words.

11. What is your favourite word and why?
‘Yes!’ Yes is a very powerful word, it opens doors and embraces positive thinking.
I love a can do attitude!

12. If you could only read one book for the rest of your life, what would it be?
I need to think about that one for a while. Let me get back to you!
