Review: 1001 Aussie Crack-ups

Kids love jokes and it often seems that the cheesier the joke, the better they like it.

I love the way my children come home from school to excitedly tell me the latest joke that one of their friends made up. Of course, it’s a joke that I thought my friends and I created when I was at school. The jokes seem to seep into the brickwork of the playground so that they can be rediscovered by each new generation of students.

Each year, Scholastic and Camp Quality ask Aussie kids and celebrities to contribute their favourite jokes for a book that raises funds for the fantastic work that Camp Quality does to bring smiles and fun into the lives of kids living with cancer.

1001 Aussie Crack-ups is the 2012 Camp Quality fundraising joke book. All royalties from the sale of the book are donated to Camp Quality. Simon Rountree, CEO Camp Quality, explains how the Camp Quality fundraiser came about:

‘This hilarious joke book was inspired in 2006 by Daniel Staunton, one of our CQ kids with an inoperable brain tumour. Six years on, Daniel is still bringing optimism and happiness to other CQ kids, with money from these joke books going towards funding our different programs. Thanks for believing that laughter is the best medicine!’

We have often given (and received) joke books as birthday and Christmas gifts for children. I know that the joke books at my children’s school library are taken from the shelves almost as soon as they returned. Kids just can’t resist a joke. Buying a copy of 1001 Aussie Crack-ups will not only bring a smile to your child’s face, but it will also help Camp Quality to continue to bring smiles to the faces of young Australian’s living with cancer.
