When she started school, Indigo noticed that the letters looked all wrong. The other kids teased her and called her dumb, leaving her out of their games. Eventually Indigo let her mother know how sad she wa. They worked together to help Indigo learn to read and discovered that her problems weren’t because she wasn’t smart, but because she has dyslexia.
Indigo Solves the Pzulze is a wonderful book to help both adults and children understand the challenges faced by people with dyslexia. Written by Wendy Fitzgerald, the story is based on the real-life experiences of Indigo, who was diagnosed with dyslexia when she was five-years-old. By sharing her story, Indigo hopes to promote awareness of dyslexia and help other children like herself who struggle to learn how to read and write.
Indigo is an inspiring young woman, not only sharing her personal struggles to help educate and encourage others, but also working with her mother Dr Catriona Wallace to launch the Indigo Express Fund in 2011. Indigo Express is a not-for-profit fund to support literacy for girls. All proceeds from the sale of the book will go to the Indigo Express Fund.
With gorgeous illustrations by Sophie Norsa, Indigo Solves the Pzulze is a fantastic resource for any classroom or school library or to simply have on your bookshelf at home. Personally, I love stories that encourage children to believe that they don’t have to be defined by their weaknesses and limitations or by their age. With support and encouragement, children can achieve amazing things just as Indigo is doing.
