Review: Dinosaurs Love Cheese

Well, who'd have thunk it? Dinosaurs and cheese? I mean, who wouldn't love cheese, especially with taste buds as experienced and sophisticated as the antiquated dinosaur?

We all know monkeys love bananas, do we not? And bears love honey. Giraffes are right into trees, of course, and it's common knowledge that camels are into sticky buns.

But dinosaurs and cheese? Yes, yes and yes. Swiss, sliced, melty - it doesn't matter, so long as it's of the dairy persuasion.

Dinosaurs Love Cheese is a new book for the younger set from beloved author Jackie French. It follows the travels of a pet stegosaurus, his young toddler charge and harried mum, as they attempt to keep their rather large friend in cheese.

Along the way, illustrator Nina Rycroft gives kids action-packed scenes of animal mayhem and delight, from monkeys in the kitchen to zebras on the crossing (an homage to the Beatles), pizza parlours full of tigers and neighbours bursting at the seams with T-Rexes and Pterodactyls.

Simple, descriptive text and colour-drenched pages will keep little eyes busy, and finer details will also entrance adults. A lovely new combination from two award-winning creatives.
