ebook Review: My Mum's the Best
Mums everywhere will delight in this gorgeous ebook this mother's day - an app totally designed for toddlers but with massive crossover appeal. With iconic illustrations by award-winning Australian illustrator, Bruce Whatley, in My Mum's the Best, we meet a charming line-up of baby baby animals, keen to show us what they love about their mums.
Kids can touch the cuddling bears and see how the mother squeezes a little tighter. They can tap the mother dog and see her lick her pup or laugh out loud at the hoola-hooping hippos.
Interactivity is simple but beautifully done, with quality narration and sound effects. The animations also perfectly highlight the humorous tone of the original book.
I was delighted to note this app is offered with three narrations - one with an Australian accent, an American accent and spelling) and one in Spanish. I personally think it's a mistake to Americanise all ebooks and apps; with such a rich variety of wordage, spellings, languages and accents on this planet - I take great personal delight in offering that variety to children, no matter where they live.
I deal for kids aged one and up, My Mum's the Best is published by Snappyant and has already received a starred Kirkus review. The app is available on iTunes for A$4.49 but hurry - for Mother's Day only, you can download it for free!
