Review: 10 Hooting Owls

Ten wide-eyed owls are helping children with their counting skills in this fun story to sing along to the tune of Ten Green Bottles.

Children follow the 10 hooting owls lounging in the sun through a variety of activities including going to the movies, hip hop dancing, playing I Spy and knitting winter socks until only one owl remains, returning to the nest.

This is a great book to read aloud with young children. Singing along to the melody of Ten Green Bottles adds to the enjoyment of the story. It is easy to pause at the point where children need to say how many owls remain so they can jump in to provide the answer. The colourful illustrations by Simon Williams will hold their attention and a there is a hidden number to find on each double page.

The owls are just wonderful with their coloured plumage and big, wide eyes. My favourites are the hip hop dancing owls. A lovely book to read with pre-schoolers, 10 Hooting Owls is sure to become one of those stories that children love to read again and again.
