Review: The Moose is Loose!

'The Moose is loose and so is the goose!'

The opening words of this fun-filled rhyming adventure perfectly set the scene for a story of animal mayhem. Train driver Mac and signalman Bruce are transporting the animals of Kalaboo Zoo when they start to break free.

And it's not just a moose and a goose that they have to worry about. There's the rat, cat and bat; the ewe, kangaroo and caribou; the rhino, the bear, the snake and the hare … and let's not forget the frogs and the dogs!

Fortunately, Mac and Bruce come up with a cunning plan to lure the escapees back — a feast of all their favourite foods — and the Kalaboo Zoo train is eventually able to get back on track. Although not before there's been some leaping and bounding, rumbling and tumbling, swirling and whirling as the animals all make the most of their freedom.

This is a big, bright picture book that will delight younger readers with its combination of rollicking rhyme and bold illustration. It's fun to read aloud too!
