Claudia Rowe's books have always been giggle-worthy. An open parody on classic childhood favourites like The Very Hungry Caterpillar and Possum Magic, the books feature a creature kids seem to take an enormous shine to--the bum.
In this latest book--Where the Wild Bums Are--Claudia mixes up Sendak's classic tale by giving it a female character with a costume derriere and a penchant for dancing around her bedroom with toilet roll streamers, performing the Wild Bum ballet.
Taking off on her polkadot windsurfer, Bea traverses the ocean to the land of the Wild Bums, who wobble their terrible wobbles and thrash their fearsome underthings and--er--release some rather unpleasant gas.
I must admit, it was a lot of fun joining Bea as she frolicked with her Wild Bum friends before returning to her bedroom where her snuggly PJs lay in wait.
Claudia's books are definitely for those who like a little bit of quirk with their picture books. And that includes most kids.
