We asked 12-year-old Logan about what he’s reading right now. Logan is the nephew of Kids' Book Review Consultant Librarian Sarah Steed.
What are you reading at the moment?
Percy Jackson and the Last Olympian by Rick Riordan. It’s the fifth book in the series. The last one.
Where did you get the books?
My friend gave them to me for my birthday.
Who is Percy Jackson?
He is the son of Poseidon, and on his sixteenth birthday he has to make a choice that will either destroy or save Olympus.
Where are the stories set?
The modern world, in present day. It’s based on Greek mythology.
Why do you like them?
It’s just the type of book that I like. Exciting, mysterious. It’s pretty good. It’s awesome.
How long has it taken you to read all of them?
The first one took me a few days. Each one took a few days except for the third and fourth. The third only took me one and a half, and the fourth took me one [because I was on holidays].
Are there any more books in the series, or are there just five?
There’s five of them, and then there’s a few books that lead off that, but are about different people.
So, different series, but related?
Yeah, same world, same time, a few years after book five.
Are they good for boys and girls?
Yes.
Who would you recommend the Percy Jackson books to?
People who don’t read much, because they are a bit easy to read through, but there are a few hard words to pronounce, like the Dracaenae, or something or other. Year five and over I think - ten years and up.
Tell us five words that describe the Percy Jackson books?
Adventure. Greek. Gods. Exciting. Gets your attention.
Thanks, Logan.
You’re welcome.
