Review: Three Hens and a Peacock

When a crate holding a peacock falls from a passing truck, life at Tucker’s farm changes forever. Peacock shakes his tail feathers and screams, as peacocks do, much to the delight of passersby and the Tuckers. Business on the Tucker farm booms, but trouble is brewing in the henhouse.

Jealousy comes in all forms, as the three chooks on Tucker’s farm are eager to demonstrate. Why should peacock get all the attention when it’s really the chickens who do all the work…or is it? When hound suggests the birds swap jobs, the fun begins.

Henry Cole adds visual detail and humour to every page of this joyful romp. Nothing is left to the imagination, with plain brown chickens using every accessory imaginable to pretty themselves up.

This gorgeous allegory on the pitfalls of not appreciating the gifts of others is also a powerful starting point for learning about differing points of view. Everyone can’t be right about everything all the time. Just ask the three hens from Tucker’s farm.

Three Hens and a Peacock is a Children’s Choice Book Award (CCBA) winner.
