Tania's Picks: Under the Ocean
Anyone who knows me well, knows I simply adore pop-up books, but sometimes one comes along that puts many others in the shade. Or under the ocean.
This beautiful, tall-format book is just the bees knees of pop-ups. Not only are the illustrations truly superb, the lush interior is just so exciting, my knees trembled as each under-water glimpse was revealed.
It was almost like popping on a snorkle and plunking my face into the briny deep--there before me was shipping scene--and then ...
... goodness gracious! Look at that! What's that happening under the surface? Fish, yes, for sure--but also chains and anchors and bottles and old bicycles and tyres!
And what about this peaceful island scene? Shall we don our masks and go under?
Woah! A paradise of coral reef awaits, with all manner of bright fish and maybe even a diver or two.
This is a masterful pop-up book, offering something a little more than the 'norm' with a concept that will have kids rushing to dive in. Literally and figuratively.
Stunning.
