1. Tell us something hardly anyone knows about you.
I played an Underbelly-style gangster in a News re-enactment. Just not very well. The director kept calling ‘cut’ because I couldn’t work out how to hold my weapon properly.
2. What is your nickname?
Ed. In Year 8, our language teacher gave us Japanese inspired forms of our names. Mine was ‘Edorian’ and for some strange reason it stuck. I’m also very good at eating sushi. Not sure if there’s a connection.
3. What is your greatest fear?
Sharks breeding with crocodiles … And singing in public. Both equally terrifying.
4. Describe your writing style in ten words.
Crawf and I try to be: fun, action-packed, visual, cheeky, fantastical and sound effect-heavy.
5. Tell us five positive words that describe you as a writer.
Emerging. Ambitious. Collaborative. Passionate. Nocturnal.
6. What book character would you be, and why?
How could I pass up Ian Fleming’s James Bond? No one is quite as cool as 007. Except when he was played by Roger Moore.
7. If you could time travel, what year would you go to and why?
I’d head to ’66 to watch the Saints win their one and only flag. And then, if there was any petrol left in the DeLorian, I’d go back to see the dinosaurs. Actually, that might be risky ... I’d go back to when Jurassic Park first came out and watch it on IMAX.
8. What would your ten-year-old self say to you now?
So, the red hair is here to stay then?
9. Who is your greatest influence?
Paul Jennings. I loved his spooky, quirky, gross-out stories when I was a kid. I also loved the theme song to his ‘Round the Twist’ TV show.
10. What/who made you start writing?
My grandfather has always encouraged me to follow my creative side. He, my mum and my teachers fostered my love of stories and I’ve been writing in some form or another ever since I got my pen licence.
11. What is your favourite word and why?
Chocolate. It has nothing to do with writing, but everything to do with writing.
12. If you could only read one book for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Where is the Green Sheep? I’d read it aloud over and over to my daughter and I’m certain she’d be surprised to find him asleep behind a bush every single time … (sorry about the spoiler).
