12 Curly Questions with author Nick Falk

1. Tell us something hardly anyone knows about you.
I am actually an alien from the planet Quop. I have to wear a lot of make-up to make sure nobody notices.

2. What is your nickname?
My imaginary friends call me 'Captain Cool.' The people I know in the real world call me 'Captain Sillypants.'

3. What is your greatest fear?
Discovering sprouts at the bottom of my bowl of custard.

4. Describe your writing style in ten words.
Fun, silly, unpredictable, wobbletastic, mad as a box of frogs

5. Tell us five positive words that describe you as a writer.
Its all about having fun!

6. What book character would you be, and why?
If I could be any character from any book ever, then I would probably be James from James and the Giant Peach. He gets to fly around the world in a giant fruit, is extremely handy at lassoing seagulls, and is best friends with a group of giant insects (useful for scaring off unwanted arachnophobes).

7. If you could time travel, what year would you go to and why?
I would go back to Monday, 3rd July 65 million years ago. I would warn the dinosaurs about the incoming meteor, group together with a clever Triceratops to invent a giant meteor-swatting tennis racquet and thwang the meteor back into space. Then I would come back to the present and invite a local dinosaur around for tea (and cake. Dinosaurs like cake).

8. What would your ten-year-old self say to you now?
'Please stop being so noisy. I'm trying to read over here!'

9. Who is your greatest influence?
Probably Daddy Pig (from Peppa Pig). He is just such a lovely, friendly, gentle fellow!

10. What/who made you start writing?
As a way to escape into a fantasy world ANYTIME I WANTED. And populate that fantasy world with ANYTHING I COULD THINK OF! How could you ever get bored???

11. What is your favorite picture book and why?
My favourite picture book is The Pig Who Wished by Grace Dunbar. Its just so much fun to read aloud!

12. If you could only read one picture book for the rest of your life, what would it be?

The Lord of the Rings has pictures in, so I could cheat and count that one. But if cheating isn't allowed I'll pick Dr. Seuss's Sleep Book. Quite frankly, its a work of genius. And I should know. My pet dog is a genius.
