Review: Standing in for Lincoln Green

Lincoln Green is soooo lucky. He has a double. A stand-in. A doppelganger. That's right. He's one lucky kid.

While he's busy doing all the fun things in life, guess who takes care of all the boring things like cleaning his room? His double. Boy, he IS lucky. I'd like a stand-in like that!

But pretty soon, Lincoln Green begins to rely on his stand-in (You Know Who) a little too much (he even sends him to the dentist for himself, can you imagine?!), and on one particular day, when You Know Who is painting the fence, a little boy named Billy pops his head over and invites him to play.
You Know Who thinks making a tree house with the kid next doors seems a whole lot more fun than painting a fence, so off he trots.

That's when things go awry.

Lincoln Green has done NOTHING his mum asked him to. He's missing out on things and is also in big trouble at school for not finishing his homework, and it's all because of You Know Who.

Can Lincoln take responsibility for his own life and stop relying on his stand-in?

Typically Mackintosh, this is yet another superb imaginative concept by the Master of Different. Typically superb illustrations are both chaotic and divine--and typically fabulous characters put readers in touch with the depths of childhood in a way that's mesmerising.

Love your work, D.
