Review: Madame Sonia Delaunay

Absolutely any excuse to enjoy a pop-up book, I say, and this small format creation by artist Lo Monaco, utlises artistic forms to create 3D versions of inspired work.

Inspired by the modern art of Jewish-French artist Sonia Delaunay (1885 - 1979), Lo Monaco has used gouache to create a serious of vibrant shapes, which slide and pop from the page.

I particularly love his take on several costumes, also inspired by the incredible wearable art of Delaunay.

Children, particularly the very young, will delight in the form of this book and its hidden visual surprises. Be sure to guide toddlers through the pages, as some pieces are delicate, and little hands could become ravenous!

A must for art collectors and lovers of vibrant modern art. The book also features rhyming text which lends story and curiosity to the imagery.

A double-page spread at the end of the book showcases Delaunay's original artworks.
