Review: Whose Truck?

Whose Truck? is a flap book that will appeal to children who love machines of various kinds.

Each double page spread has a picture of a truck with just enough detail and different parts labelled. It gives clues about what the truck is for and asks the question “Whose truck is this? Do you know?” Lift the flap and underneath is the answer, along with a picture of the truck and its workers in action.

Altogether there are six different trucks. This is an American publication so a bit of the terminology may be unfamiliar, for example EMT instead of ambulance. There are also one or two situations, like clearing ice and snow from the roads, which will be less familiar than a fire engine being used to fight fires.

The ending, where children play with their toy trucks, will be likely to encourage young imaginations in free play.

Whose Truck? is bound to be read and re-read, so it’s a good thing it’s a board book!
