Review: Cockatoo, Too

As you first open the pages of Cockatoo, Too, you will read-For word lovers and bird lovers. There is no denying that I am both, which simply sums up this fabulous book perfectly.

Beautiful to look at and to read, Cockatoo, Too is a play on words.

Complete with Cockatoos, Tutus, Toucans and even a Can-can dance, Cockatoo, Too is a clever, read aloud, tongue twisting tale. Introducing children to the concept that some words are pronounced the same but differ in meaning, and sometimes spelling, Cockatoo, Too encourages children to have fun with homophones.

While two cockatoos meet two more cockatoos in tutus, two tutued toucans encounter two more toucans. But can they all can-can? Of course they can!

The illustrations are playful and simply gorgeous. With lush, vibrant colours and strategic text, author illustrator, Bethanie Deeney Murguia, combines creativity, wordplay and humour, making for a story that will entertain and want to be read over and over…too!
