Elephant would like to play hide and seek with his little friend. Apparently Elephant is very very good at it. So, he hides first.
The hunt begins. Is Elephant in the kitchen? The little boy decides he's not. The bedroom perhaps? Nope, not there either. In the lounge? Seems neither the boy nor his father can see him. And so it goes on.
The humour for the reader lies in the fact that Elephant can be clearly spotted in every scene of the book: holding the TV, with a table lamp perched on his head, tucked behind a very small tree … I can imagine young kids screaming at the boy: 'LOOK! He's there! THERE!' as they turn the pages.
David Barrow won the 2015 Sebastian Walker Award for most promising children's illustrator. I can see why. His illustrations perfectly complement the understated humour of the text to create a story that will delight both children and adults.
Keep an eye out for the tortoise at the end of the book. Yep, you guessed it. He's really good at tag!
