Review: Where is Bear?

Where is Bear? is a gorgeous story about a little boy who can’t find a teddy bear. And there’s a little twist to this story which I won’t give away here.

It’s bed time, but it seems the teddy bear is missing. The boy looks everywhere, asking “Where is bear?” throughout his hunt: drawers, shelves, in the bathroom sink, under the table. He even looks outside where the stars are twinkling and his torch guides the search of the backyard and car.

Unfortunately bear cannot be found so the boy heads back upstairs to bed, unleashing one final “WHERE IS BEAR?” Of course, just at the last minute, bear is found and the boy and his friend can go to bed happy.

Jonathan Bentley’s illustration style and story are perfectly suited to each other. There is a soft, gentle flavour to both, as he captures the simplicity of an everyday occurrence, and something that has great meaning to a small child.

Where Is Bear? will make a perfect bedtime story.
