Review: Chip

Chip is absolutely crazy for fish and chips (who isn't??). The fish part is often missing, but plenty of chip scraps can often be found. Mmm ... delish. Even if they make his tummy ache.

Chip loves fish and chip leftovers so much, he--alas--becomes quite obsessed about snaffling them. Rude, even. Things get so bad, eventually the local fish and chip guy--Joe's Chip Van--knocks up a sign:

DO NOT FEEL THE GULLS

And so the scraps stop.
Chip tries a disguise. He even tries an apple core. But the fish and chips are no more.

Then, Chip has an idea that might secure him and his local mates some regular fish and chips, and also make Joe and his Chip Van very happy.

This is a clever, charming story with beautifully fresh, vibrant and modern illustrations that still retain a certain retro charm. I love Kylie's colour palette and use of textures and patterning, too.

Chip is an endearing character and the ending to his tale is wonderfully-thought-out, perfectly balancing the narrative. Adore the front endpapers, too, with fragments of chip on them.

Now I want fish and chips!
