12 Curly Questions with Inga Simpson

1. Tell us something hardly anyone knows about you.
When I was a teenager I earned money as a calligrapher.

2. What is your nickname?
The only nickname I ever carried for long was “Feisty” – courtesy of a government workplace.

3 .What is your greatest fear?
Spiders

4. Describe your writing style in ten words.
Spare, grounded in nature, populated by trees, birds, and (I hope) – heart.

5. Tell us five positive words that describe you as a writer.
Dedicated, strong sense of place.

6. What book character would you be, and why?
Perrin – from Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time series. He is part-wolf.

7. If you could time travel, what year would you go to and why?
2008 – to prevent myself making a terrible financial decision.

8. What would your ten-year-old self say to you now?
“You can so be a writer.”

9. Who is your greatest influence?
Gillian Mears/Rick Bass

10. What/who made you start writing?
Wanting to create worlds and characters like the ones I loved reading.

11. What is your favourite word and why?
Published – which feels much better than its antonym.

12. If you could only read one book for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Lord of the Rings
