12 Curly Questions with Robert Vescio

1. Tell us something hardly anyone knows about you.
I’m obsessed with Mickey Mouse. He is the epitome of magic, imagination and hope.

2. What is your nickname?
I don’t really have one but I sometimes get called Rob.

3. What is your greatest fear?
I have a fear of spiders.

4. Describe your writing style in ten words.
From personal experience with some magic and adventure mixed in.

5. Tell us five positive words that describe you as a writer.
Creative. Imaginative. Experimental. Resilient. Focused.

6. What book character would you be, and why?
Batman. He is the king of gadgets.

7. If you could time travel, what year would you go to and why?
I would go back to the Elizabethan age to meet Shakespeare and pick his brain.

8. What would your ten-year-old self say to you now?
Stop! And have fun!!

9. Who is your greatest influence?
Walt Disney. He inspired me to dream and imagine.

10. What/who made you start writing?
The Chronicles of Narnia - C.S. Lewis. I, too, want to create my own imaginary world and characters.

11. What is your favourite word and why?
Pretend! It’s a word I loved as a child, and still remains today. This word grows with you. It brings out the magic of storytelling.

12. If you could only read one book for the rest of your life, what would it be?
The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. We’re all ready for our Narnia adventure!


Robert Vescio is an Australian children's author based in Sydney. He has worked in the publishing industry for over 12 years as a Production Manager and a Photo Editor sourcing photographic material from world-renowned photographers the ilks of Greg Gorman, Mario Testino, Annie Leibovitz and Jean-Baptiste Mondino. Robert enjoys visiting schools where his aim is to enthuse and inspire children to read and write and leave them bursting with imaginative ideas.

Robert has won awards for his children’s writing and his picture books include, Barnaby and the Lost Treasure of Bunnyville (Big Sky Publishing), Marlo Can Fly (Wombat Books) and No Matter Who We’re With (IP Kidz). He has more picture books due for release in 2016 and 2017. Many of his short stories have been published in anthologies, including The NSW School Magazine.
