Review: Little Mouse's Big Breakfast

Little Mouse is a wee bit hungry. Keen for some breakfast, he struggles to find even a single sunflower seed, as the leaves fall and winter creeps in.

Spying a warmly-lit house in the distance, he scampers inside to take a look. There, on the table, is a bright blueberry. Heaven!

Little Mouse grabs the berry and prepares to leave, when he spots something else... a rosy red apple! Oh my! Then he finds the biscuit bin--too good to be true! And a hunk of cheese. A pickle! A sausage! Oh good heavens--the almighty cupcake.

It's all too much for Little Mouse. As he balances his precarious stash of breakfast goodies, he prepares to leave, and on the way--oh! A shiny, stripy sunflower seed. Can he bend down and add one more little treat to his teetering collection?

What do you think happens next?

I really loved this book. Fresh, humorous, utterly charming, Little Mouse is the most scrumptious little thing you ever did meet, and his determined nature is one that will make any readers smile. The book's ending is clever and funny and beautifully thought-out (so, so important!), as it leaves the reader wondering what will happen next, and instantly invites a repeat read.

This is a beautifully-designed book with richly-coloured and textured illustrations on uncoated pages. One to look out for.
