Digby and the Yodelayhee… Who? starts right where we left Digby after his first adventure in Digby’s Moon Mission. There’s a mysterious noise being very noisy, and he just can’t figure out what it is. Perplexed and curious, Digby decides to investigate, so he sets off on an adventure to hunt down the source of the mystery melody.
Could it be Digby’s friend Sophie tooting her kazoo? Or his friend Tarquin tapping with sticks? As Digby continues the search, he meets more and more of his musical friends until they all discover what's making the super-duper noise.
Renee Price has once again created a super fun adventure that skilfully teaches without teaching. This time round, there is instruments to explore and music to enjoy as Digby’s friends twang, plink, plonk and doomp to a special rhyming beat.
Featured in each rhyme is a different time as Digby searches through the day. Lovely little clocks adorn the pages so kids get a visual to accompany the time reference—great for eager little learners or for introducing the concept of time in a fun and interesting way.
Anil Tortop’s illustrations are, again, simply stunning. Her work is colourful and vibrant, and it has a magical ability to draw your eyes from across the room. I love that every page has a different, brightly coloured background, and I can’t rave enough about the simple yet detailed expressions Tortop creates to convey the curiosity, astonishment and delight the characters experience throughout the book.
And when you come to the final pages, and after you’ve read the funny and quirky ending, you get an extra special surprise: music and lyrics for the musically talented to devour. And if you don't have instrument abilities (my hand is up), there is a QR code to scan, so you can listen to the song online.
Be warned, though, that the song is fun, funky and fabulous, so little listeners will want it repeated (which is a good thing; it really is fantastic!)
Recommended for music fans and lovers of fun, quirky stories, Digby and the Yodelayhee… Who? is a wild dance party your kids will thoroughly enjoy.
And as a teeny side note, you don’t need to have read Digby’s Moon Mission to read Digby and the Yodelayhee… Who?. But Digby’s first adventure is fantastic, and you can read more about Digby’s Moon Mission here.
