In reality, the majority of animals and objects aren't red at all. Not even the purple, white and yellow cover with 'The Red Book' written in bold. But therein lies the fun of this story.
It's the latest in Beck and Matt Stanton's Books That Drive Kids CRAZY series. After trialing this on my three-year-old, I can confirm, they certainly do drive kids crazy -- in a fun and educational way.
This book is all about engaging children through humour and parent-child interaction, and what could be better than that?
I asked my husband to try this out while I sat back to watch. My son's response was exactly what I imagine the authors aim for. "No, Daddy! IT IS NOT REDDD!!!" (rinse, lather, repeat...).
I even love the back of the book, which begins with the hard-to-ignore letter: 'For the Grown-Ups: Okay, Bigwig...' I mean come on, that's just too enticing. As for the illustrations, they're bold, clear and fun.
After trying this at home, I am no longer a skeptic but a convert. I'm looking forward to the next book in this crazy series. Happy reading!
