12 Curly Questions with author Karen Tyrrell

1. Tell us something hardly anyone knows about you.
I used to dream of being a girl superhero, zooming around my house wearing a red cape and boxing gloves. I watched Wonder Woman, imagining I could be like her.

2. What is your nickname? 
Kaz, Mum or honey.

3. What is your greatest fear?
Creepy crawly insects scuttling over my arms and legs when I’m asleep.

4. Describe your writing style in 10 words. 
Action-packed, humorous, imaginative, engaging, page-turner, fast-paced, inventive, fun, emotive, quirky.

5. Tell us five positive words that describe you as a writer. 
Passionate, determined, motivated, focused, honest.

6. What book character would you be, and why? 
Rosella Ava Bird, the superhero character from my Song Bird junior fiction series. Rosie soars when she sings. She rescues her sister and her school mates from the bullies as well as saving the bees and the planet.

7. If you could time travel, what year would you go to and why? 
I’d like to go into the past and save our environment from climate change.

8. What would your 10-year-old self say to you now? 
I love reading your Song Bird books. They’re so much fun. Can’t wait to find out what happens to Song Bird next.

9. Who is your greatest influence? 
Roald Dahl

10. What/who made you start writing? 
When I taught as a school teacher, my student and his parents bullied me to breaking point. In hospital, I started writing my memoir. Later, I created empowering children’s books to help kids live strong.

11. What is your favourite word and why? Gob-smacked. I just love the sound it makes when you say it.

12. If you could only read one book for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Matilda, by Roald Dahl.
