Review: A Perfectly Posh Pink Afternoon Tea

Six girls in beautiful pearls are having a posh pink afternoon tea, but over the fence two scheming boys are plotting a devious plan to ruin their fun.

A Perfectly Posh Pink Afternoon Tea is pure delight. It’s fun and funny, and it has the most fabulous surprise ending that will make you smile and want to shout out ‘yes!’.

Author Coral Vass is so very talented. The story flows beautifully, and the rhythm and rhyme is perfect and so easy to follow all the way through. It’s a joy to read aloud, and it’s the kind of picture book you finish and immediately want to read again.
Filled with all the things kids love (dressing up, tea parties, yummy treats, making trouble and playing outside), children of all ages will enjoy and relate to this story. It’s a book about kids being kids, which I adore, but it also has some fantastic messages skilfully camouflaged into the narrative, which I also adore.

This is not just a story about a fancy tea party. It’s also a story about girls jumping in, getting messy and improvising. And it’s not just a story about two boys scheming. It’s also a story about the boys liking dress-ups and parties just as much as the girls.

With divine illustrations by gifted artist Gabriel Evans, A Perfectly Posh Pink Afternoon Tea is a book to savour slowly and explore. The characters' expressions are so detailed and expressive, their personalities shine through on every page. The colours are simply gorgeous, and there are so many page spreads I would like to frame and put on my wall.

This picture book has it all. Perfect rhythm and rhyme, truely beautiful illustrations, a relatable and fun story for kids and an invisible and fantastic message that your gender doesn’t define how you should play or the things you should enjoy.
