Review: Winnie-the-Pooh: The Great Heffalump Hunt

Based on the works of Winnie-the-Pooh by A.A. Milne and E.H. Sheppard, Giles Andreae has created a magical story in verse, with the much-loved characters Pooh and Piglet.

Best friends Pooh and Piglet are strolling through the forest. Pooh has one of his ‘Grand Ideas’. He wants to catch a Heffalump.

Rabbit has told him that Heffalumps eat Piglets. After wondering and pondering what bait to use in their trap, Piglet suggests honey.

Pooh leaves Piglet to dig the pit and goes to get the jar. Can Pooh touch honey without having a taste? They set the almost empty jar in the pit and off they go to get some sleep.

But Pooh can’t sleep. He’s always hungry. He searches for food but realizes the last of his honey is in the pit. Off he goes to get it.

Piglet is scared that the Heffalump will get him so he goes in search of his friend for comfort. But he has to go past the pit to get to Pooh’s place.

What happens next and what he discovers in the forest will test their friendship. Will they remain ‘Best Friends Forever’ after this disastrous adventure?

Piglet proves that bravery is not measured by one’s size; that being small is sometimes better that being big, and that friendship sets no boundaries.

The gorgeous illustrations stay true to the originals. Themes of friendship, sharing, and being there for one another, carry the story. The stunning covers are a delight and tell a story of their own.
