Review: Pig in a Wig

What a glorious idea for a story, a Pig in a Wig by Chrissie Krebs. This promises to be a humourous, action packed story with delightful escapades.

This wigged pig has a huge persona and displays a plethora of emotions. Pig is delighted with his find, a blonde wig in his paddock. Donning the wig, feeling mighty fine, he jigs over to show a cow his wonderful locks.

Oh no that's not a cow but an angry bull. The shocked pig runs off screaming with the bull charging after him.

Poor pig finds refuge high up in a tree until a hungry kitty stalks the pig to the end of a thin branch and when the branch goes, thwack, pig is hurtled into the air and ...

'He flew past the paddock and into the yard,
where an angry old dog was standing guard.
He growled and he barked, that angry old dog.
He didn't much like a wig-wearing hog.'

Oh dear! Now the pig in a wig is being chased by a dog, a cat and the mad bull. What will happen next?

There is an interesting twist at the end of the story that will have children creating their own stories using the prompts from the last two pages.

Krebs' rhyming text combined with the illustrations, will have littlies giggling with delight at the animation shown by the character's body language, especially their facial expressions.

And for lovers of end-papers, you will adore the variety of wigs that the pigs wear.
