12 Curly Questions with author Katrina Germein

1. Tell us something hardly anyone knows about you.
That’s a tricky one. (I think maybe I’m an over sharer!) I haven’t said much of the new picture book I’m working on with Little Book Press. It’s about a very pesky crocodile that feeds on feet.

2. What is your nickname?
I wish I had one.

3. What is your greatest fear?
I think early onset dementia would be pretty awful.

4. Describe your writing style in 10 words.
I write stories for children and adults to share together.

5. Tell us five positive words that describe you as a writer.
I’m happy to be me.

6. What book character would you be, and why?
I can never go past Pippi Longstocking. Pippi is fierce and fun. (Does anyone ever choose an adult character?)

7. If you could time travel, what year would you go to and why?
Maybe 2004 when my twins were two and my eldest was four. I’d love to hug those gorgeous babies.

8. What would your 10-year-old self say to you now?
Ignore that horrid teacher who judges you on handwriting alone. It doesn’t matter.

9. Who is your greatest influence?
My mum. (But she drives me nuts too.)

10. What/who made you start writing?
I’ve been writing since I learnt how. There’s never been reason to stop.

11. What is your favourite word and why?
Disenchanted. It’s such a sweet way of saying fed up.

12. If you could only read one book for the rest of your life, what would it be?
I pretty much never re-read novels. I only re-read picture books and poetry, so maybe something from my childhood — The Selfish Giant perhaps.
