Review: Rodney

All Rodney has ever wanted is to live up in the treetops. But poor Rodney is a turtle, and turtles can’t live in trees.

His friends try to coax him up with tales of beauty and yummy treats, but their efforts just make him sad. Rodney will never eat the juiciest leaves with giraffe. He will never gaze at the ocean with the birds.

Poor Rodney is forlorn, until one day something happens to Rodney the turtle, and everything changes.

Rodney is a delightful picture book about perspective and discovering the things you have right in front of you.

Lots of kids want things they can’t have, and Rodney is a gentle reminder that something coveted might already be owned if only you change the way you look at the situation.

It’s also a story about dreams — about daring to chase after the things you desire, but also having enough courage to see that sometimes you need to change the dream (which may deliver an even better result than you anticipated!)

A fun and relatable tale, with heaps of humour and divine illustrations, Rodney is a spectacular journey from start to finish. And I really do mean spectacular. The book cover is a sneak peek of what you'll find inside: exquisite illustrations, so much colour, engaging beauty on every page.

Kelly Canby is a master of both words and pictures, and I predict her books will become classics for children’s bedrooms across the country. Check out Rodney, and you will see what I mean.

And while you’re there, grab The Hole Story, too. It’s a hoot! And head over here to find out more about the talented Kelly Canby.
