Review: Alphabeasts

Maree Coote’s original designs have flair and imagination.

The curves and swirls challenge the reader to recognize which letter is where. Sharp and leaping lines adorn the pages, while structures of letters in bold print stand upright or bend upon blank backgrounds and in all directions.

The use of repeated colour throughout - fluorescent pink, white, black and grey, guarantees the intent focus of the viewer.

Melbourne-based Coote creates a look-and-find learning experience for children and adults in a stunning implementation of typographical portraits of animals. If you haven’t experienced her work, prepare to be delighted by the complexity of the characters carved into imaginative letter constructions of architectural design.

Having received recognition at the Nami Island Children’s International Picture Book Awards (one of many awards), her books are filled with meaningful learning. They call to young minds with their difference and individuality, beauty and excellence, in their approach to what they offer children.

The brilliance of her award-winning creative letter art, promises to nourish children’s minds with information presented in a unique and challenging way.

This new collection of A to Z of alphabetical animals comes with Teachers' Notes that incorporate valuable information and statistics on all the characters depicted in this artistic production which is  well worth taking a look at.
