Review: The Woods

Once there was a wolf that learnt a very important lesson when he tried to get a creature to come out of The Cave.

Now three foxes have teamed up to go rabbit hunting in The Woods.

Tall Fox, Tiny Fox and Round Fox set out to catch themselves a tasty rabbit. They really do try hard, but those sneaky rabbits are just not anywhere…

Or are they?

Rob Hodgson once again delivers a hilarious and engaging picture book filled with heaps of humour (which is deliciously dark), stunning illustrations (with Easter eggs — hidden elements — on every page) and so many engaging features to thrill and entertain the kids.

I adore how Hodgson’s books trigger conversation and questions, which lead to interesting discussions with kids. Much of the storytelling is led by the super funky illustrations, making the story so much fun to explore.

It’s a story to take your time with, to let little eyes wander and pick out the details, to let the story sink in and for connections to be made.

Super fun, super funky and super funny, The Woods is a fabulous picture book for kids (and adults) who love a clever giggle!
