Junior Review: His Name Was Walter

In an old dark house by a creek, Colin, three of his fellow classmates and their stern history teacher find a handwritten book with vivid detailed pictures inside.

At first they all thought that this haunting tale of a boy named Walter was a fairy tale, or was it?

After their minibus conked out on the side of the rocky dirt road and the rest of the class had walked to town to get a taxi, they had to go into the rickety dark house that gave everyone a chill and a feeling something very bad happened here.

They thought so even more when an eerie, whistling tune came from the house.

That night they read the haunting story of the boy called Walter and the girl named Sparrow – right to the very last page.

I loved this story so much because of the excellent and capturing way Emily Rodda wrote it and also because it had a magic and haunting vibe to it. It felt like I was a part of the story witnessing every moment inside the words. This haunting story of Walter will always be one of my favourites.

I recommend this story for nine years and over because I think it could give nightmares to any one under who is sensitive.
