Review: Is It The Way You Giggle?

Here is a charming book that asks children what makes them special. Is it their personality, the way they talk, smile, giggle or wiggle? Is it how many cartwheels they can turn, the way they style their hair, the shape of their face or their freckles?

Is it the Way you Giggle celebrates diversity, movement and individuality and differences. How often do we tell ourselves there is nothing special about me. And yet there is that magic something that excludes us from being ordinary. Nicola Connelly’s interesting text conjures up images of fun, the unpredictable and the uninhibited in children.

All these attributes are reflected in a joyful parade of play and expression in every part of every illustration by the gifted Annie White. She can turn a few words into an extended party using delicate characters full of whimsy. Soft watercolour and pencil images reflect children in all types of play, action,  and splendour.

Whatever it is that you celebrate in either yourself, your children or in others, it is here, to reinforce the uniqueness of each talent or  endearing trait.

This is a book that will inspire and empower children; one that they can relate to and in which they can identify themselves.

Stunning fly pages begin and end the celebrations with balloons, hats, streamers and decorations.
