Review: Six Sleepy Mice

Gorgeously illustrated you would almost forgive these six sleepy mice if you found them in in your kitchen, they are so cute.

This beautifully written tale of friendship and adventure is brought to life with the fast-paced rhyming and hilarious situations.

The story centres around six sleepy mice who discover a banquet of food in a kitchen cupboard. They celebrate by gorging themselves on nuts, popping corn and anything else they can get their furry little noses into.

After overeating the mice seek a nice warm spot to sleep off all this decadence. That is until Mum arrives to bake and they are disturbed. Thinking they have escaped; they scamper into a laundry hamper. But they soon find themselves thrown into the wash with the clothes.

Desperate to evade capture and to find a safe place to sleep, the sleepy mice discover the boy’s bedroom. The bedroom is cluttered with monster trucks, bugs in jars and stuffed animals, the perfect place to sleep. Nestling down next to the animals, preparing to go to sleep, the mice receive another shock, the biggest stuffed animal drools on them and the boys arrive home.

Will the six sleepy mice escape this latest situation to locate a safe comfy place to rest their sleepy furry heads?

Australian author Heidi Cooper Smith has managed to combine her artistic talent with her carefully crafted story to create a picture book that will appeal and be loved by all children. Children’s librarians especially will love reading this book for story times, it works great with the addition of mice finger puppets.
