Review: Hound the Detective

Join Hound as he tries to unravel a mystery.

This is a tricky case, with a big surprise at the end.

Hound is a canine Sherlock Holmes, without the Watson sidekick.

He's a detective with a 'beagle eye' and uses his nose to 'sniff and snuffle' the clues and track down answers.

In this story, the trail begins with a riddle arriving in the mail.

As Hound follows each clue to a new location, he explores places like the creek, manor house, train station, general store, a cabin in the woods, and the village fair.

When he finally discovers the secret behind the clues, Hound is able to celebrate.

Readers can help Hound each step of the way as there are clues in the pictures. Look closely and carefully and see if you can work out what has happened.

Also to be found in the pictures throughout the story, is a tiny green caterpillar. How many of them can you spot?

Author and illustrator Kimberley Andrews created Hound the Detective using pencil and photoshop. It's a story that is both modern, and yet olde-worlde and packed with detail. The endpapers also have a trail to follow through a complex of tunnels.

Hound the Detective is great fun for curious kids, wanna be sleuths, and dog lovers.
