Review: 100 Things To Know About Saving the Planet

This is exactly the kind of information book that I loved as a child, crammed full of interesting bits and pieces, a plethora of awesome (and in this case, retro styled) illustrations and easy to dip in and out of facts.

It’s probably fair to say that the interest from all, but particularly young people, in making a difference to the state of the planet has increased exponentially in the recent past – and partly, due to the extraordinary circumstances of the past pandemic year.

So this book is both timely and welcome with its practical suggestions for a wide variety of actions.

There are the simple and very popular ideas such as providing for bees, walking instead of always using vehicles and recycling plastics but there are many fascinating facts of which I had no idea at all. For example, even as a golf devotee, I had no idea that one could buy golf balls that will break down under water, reducing the impact of these in the marine or freshwater environments.

From edible spoons to flying toad meat sausages for quolls to face masks for cows, this book has so much to offer to young environmental activists, who will be itching to put some of these ideas into real life situations, whether at home or at school.

There is no doubt that Usborne always come up with non-fiction that is both super informative and totally engaging and there will be many who will relish this addition to their shelves.
