Review: My Spaghetti ABC

Do you love spaghetti?

I mean, who doesn’t?

Our protagonist in My Spaghetti ABC sure does, and she’s ready to sing from the rooftops about it.

A funny, charming rhyming romp through dinner, My Spaghetti ABC is a fun and funny exploration of all the things spaghetti can be.

Some funny shapes I love to make; a butterfly or wriggly snake. A giggly face with wiggly feet, all spread out on Daddy’s seat.

Author/illustrator Deborah Niland’s flawless rhyme rolls off the tongue and pulls you right into the story. Kids will love the humour and the inspiration to get creative with food. And I swear, parents, you won’t mind because this story makes you feel like a kid again, and it will make you want to play with spaghetti too.

With a lovely fold out climax at the end, the book has big impact. And, again, the rhyme is spot on, so you’ll just feel… happy… as you read.

Niland’s illustrations are just as fun as her text. Bright colours and funky characters feature throughout. And there are special details to explore and cheeky character expressions to delight in.

I love picture books about big issues, and I love picture books that challenge your mind , but I also love picture books that are just fun and funny and filled with the simple joys of being a kid. My Spaghetti ABC is this book.

Sure to be requested for repeat reads, I highly recommend adding some cheer to bedtime reading with My Spaghetti ABC by Deborah Niland.
