Review: Ash Invites Her Friends To Tea
Ash is a young bird who is bored with the tree she is sitting in. She doesn't think there's anything special about it.
Then one day Grandpa shows her the magic that happens after you pick the leaves and dry them.
When hot water is later added, it wakes the leaves from their sleep, and the wonderful smell attracts other creatures.
Ash and Grandpa are visited by a monkey, panda, and a wild boar.
The animals all enjoy the tea made from the leaves, each reminded of something special. Panda tastes the sweetness of fruit and honey, while monkey tastes the silky smoothness of bamboo.
Then a dragon appears and wants its share of the magic. Will Ash share their tea?
There is a sense of peace and tradition in both the story and illustratons in Ash Invites Her Friends to Tea.
At the end of the book you will find instructions for how to make tea just like Grandpa does, in four simple steps.
Author and illustrator, Fu Wenzheng's style is clearly influenced by her Chinese heritage, and the story's themes can be used to introduce discussion of culture and traditions.
Ash Invites Her Friends to Tea is a story that can be enjoyed at home by families, including childrren and grandparents, or in a classroom.
