Review: Rosie the Rhinoceros

Rosie is a rhinoceros.

She lives in the savannah with giraffes, elephants, lions, and other wild animals.

She must be a rhinoceros!

But, no, Rosie is a unicorn. That's what she tells her friends. Just like a unicorn, Rosie has a horn. She walks quietly and daintily, and leaps in the air.

Unfortunately everyone who greets Rosie calls her a little rhinoceros. They don't understand that Rosie sees herself differently.

Rosie needs to tell them the truth and enlists Mrs Elephant's help to bring all the animals together for a meeting.

Rosie explains to the other animals that they are mistaken, and asks them to please call her Rosie the unicorn.

Her friends ask her forgiveness for misunderstanding, and tell her how much they appreciate her kindness and caring ways.

Rosie is so happy at being recognised for simply being herself, and that's what makes this story special. It celebrates individuality and uniqueness, and encourages acceptance and inclusion.

Rosie the Rhinoceros is a happy and heartfelt story, with an important message, written by rock superstar and bestselling author, Jimmy Barnes. This book was inspired by Jimmy's granddaughter, and follows hot on the heels of his three bestselling books for adults.

Illustrator Matt Shanks has brilliantly imagined Rosie and her friends with a loveable depiction of Rosie living life to the fullest. The illustrations are gentle and incredibly appealing.

Add Rosie the Rhinoceros to your family's home library and revisit it whenever you need to feel good.
