Review: Bug Scouts: Out in the Wild

Are you keen for a wild adventure? Would you like to join the coolest scout troop there ever was? Do you like bugs and friends and collecting?

Join Doug, Abby, Josh and new Bug Scout member Luna as they try to collect their next awesome Bug Badge.

But earning their Practical Plants badge doesn’t appear to be as easy as the bugs first thought it would be. There are dangers in the wild, and not everyone (or everything) wants to be their friend.

Bug Scouts Out in the Wild is book one in a scrumptious new junior graphic novel series for kids. With only five chapters, chunky text and funky illustrations galore, it’s a nice and easy read for new independent readers.

And it’s funny. Did I mention it’s funny? This is a book that’s all about the fun. From Josh’s obsession with food (and his sort-of dislike for scouts) to Doug’s uber-positive attitude that lands them in trouble more than once, it’s filled with silliness and joy. The story is not a serious one, something I think kids will really appreciate. It’s just fun. And sometimes that’s just what readers are looking for.

Mike Lowery is a New-York-Times bestselling Illustrator of so many books for kids. His style is funky and chunky, and I am addicted to it!

Next up will be Bug Scouts Camp Out!, which I am very much looking forward to. But in the meantime, I’m getting my Mike Lowery fix through his Instagram page @mikelowerystudio.
